Our readers respond:

Spirituality for me is about "becoming." My spirituality means that there is that one place I can go stripped of all that is phoney and in nakedness BE. Within the context of that naked honesty is the relationship and dance I have with the Sacred. From Pat

Spirituality is the realization that universal energy provides each of us with the opportunity to co-create our own reality and expand our natural talents. From Jean

Spirituality is everything that pertains to me.  My spirit-the essence of me-affects my thinking, my emotions, my physical being and everything else about me.  Spirituality is not a separate part of my life, it is not something I do on Sunday morning.  It is how I view life, how I care for my garden, how I prepare food and how I hug people.  My essence, or spirit, longs to be manifest in the world and through my physical body it is.  Each action I take and each word I speak reflects my "spirituality"...who I am, the footprints I want to leave in this world.  Spirituality also includes the more mysterious aspects of my life: intuition, longings, and my hope for what comes after death. Spirituality is life. From Susan

I am a Protestant through and through--the inheritor of some 5 generations (or more, I haven't quite counted them all) of American Protestant preachers. I was reared in church and Sunday school, but with a Grandfather known for his liberal religious and social points of view. I am grateful for this inheritance of deep pietism coupled with freedom of thought and spirit. Very religiously active in YWCA and Methodist Youth movements through college, I went to very liberal University of Chicago Divinity School where I majored in Theology and Social Ethics (avoiding the usual women's specialties}, married a Seminary student, and with him went into mission work in the Philippines as a way of jointly living out our faith and belief in helping the poor and working for peace. The War brought unexpected insights and strengthened my faith--a long story, but seminal to my whole life experience. I have 3 adult children, a long and varied career; after 63 happy and fruitful married years, my husband died 5 years ago. "Spirituality" is not the word I would ever have used to describe my life pilgrimage, though perhaps it could be useful in this discussion. From Marilee

Faces of Goddesses Cover the Planets by Linda Sharpe

Displayed with her kind permission.

Linda Sharpe writes "The fun is in allowing the creativity to flow-from my heart and soul-from my love for color, drama, fantasy and whimsy. For me painting is about putting color and form to paper to express feelings and ideas... I never know what will awaken out of the empty white or a form already painted. The picture paints itself and finds its own balance and resolution. Groups of people appear-ones that are not often depicted in art or photography- and tell me their stories. My work explores how individuality is challenged by relationships, how relationships pressure us to conform and how we respond to these demands." She is also a writer of personal development / spirituality books, a book on intuitive creativity, and several illustrated gift books.
