Judith's Table began as Judith's applied spirituality student project while studying feminist spirituality at the Women's Leadership Institute at Hartford Seminary in 2003. Over the years, Judith's Table has evolved and grown because of the contributions of many women of spirit. Miracles do happen and Judith has received many letters telling her how Judith's Table had made a real difference in women's lives: one from the daughter of an incarcerated woman, one from the mother of a marriage that was saved by reading an article posted here, several from women who have their art or writing posted here and telling of their joy of having their work recognized, and many more. And, there have been many thanks from A Sacred Place where Judith's Table donates all profits from visitors shopping with Judith Table affiliate merchants.
Today Judith's Table is a bi-monthly magazine with contributing columnists and featured artists and writers. We offer a feminist perspective and desire that all women will realize their divine worth. We sincerely hope the women who come to our table find sustenance, new insights, and respite from their everyday routine. Judith's Table is a circle of spirit gifts both given and received. Sit and have a cup of tea, relax, and enjoy your visit.
Why the Spirals at Judith's Table?
The spiral is an ancient symbol reflecting the universal pattern of life, growth, evolution, and emergence. The spiral represents a rebirth, a passing from one realm to another. The spiral pattern appears again and again in the natural world from the Milky Way galaxy to snail shells. The living spiral does not begin or end. It is an ongoing process of innocence, discovery, and the essence that connects all things.
The ancient Age of the Great Mother was the infancy of humanity and the expression of the Divine Feminine. As the world's religions developed, the Divine became referred to in the masculine, even though thought to be beyond gender or encompassing both genders. Women have suffered because of this masculine Divine image. Let us remember the goddesses, the goddesses who portray women as strong and inventive, offering counsel, having magical bodies, powerful words, and Divine wisdom.
About Art Displayed at Judith's Table
We believe all creativity is a manifestation of the Spirit. Art displayed at Judith's Table is by women artists who have kindly given their permission for their work to be published here. Some images are historical and representative of women artists.
An Artist Statement usually accompanies contemporary art. Also see J. T. Contributors, page 1 and 2, for biographies and additional information about these women of spirit.
